Project · 2026 · Park Slope, Brooklyn

The White Oak Wardrobe.

The brief

A full wall of white oak. No handles, no hardware in sight.

Four wardrobe columns, each with a hanging section above and stacked drawers below. At the far end, an open bookcase in the same oak runs the full height of the wall. Every door has a full-height finger pull in solid white oak, cut into the door itself.

The LED strips are inside, mounted at the door hinge. When you open a door the interior lights up. Closed, you'd never know it was there.

The detail · Integrated finger pull

An eight-foot finger pull, cut from one piece of solid white oak.

A full-height solid white oak finger pull cut into the door between two oak panels, photographed from the inside before the edge is covered. Wewillbebirds millwork detail

From the inside · before the edge is covered

How the oak is set into the door. One solid piece, cut in. Once the edge is covered, the joint disappears.

The pull is a single length of solid white oak, cut into the door and fitted so the grain runs the full height without a break.

Every door in the wall is built the same way. The parts no one will ever see are finished to the same standard as the ones they will.
